UMES to Assist Revamp Hospitality & Tourism Industry

T he University of Maryland, Eastern Shore (UMES), USA, will assist Technical Universities to revamp the hospitality and Tourism industry in Ghana through a capacity building programme. The programme which includes an exchange of staff and students, is aimed at tackling the shortfalls in the sector. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UMES and Accra Technical University (ATU) together with other Technical Universities and Polytechnics at the Accra City Hotel on Thursday 8, June. The Chair and Professor in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism of UMES, Prof. Emmanuel Acquah who elaborated on the agreement, said the collaboration would stimulate beneficial outcome for stakeholders. He, therefore called on stakeholders, both public and private to actively get involved and work towards its success. Technical Universities, Polytechnics and UMES Sign Agreement E ight Technical Universities and two Polytechnics in Ghana have signed an articulation agreement with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), USA. The agreement which was signed at the Accra City Hotel on Thursday 8, June, for the Hospitality and Tourism Faculties in the respective institutions includes an exchange programme which concentrates on vocational and training capacities for staff and students. The discussion which led to the signing of the agreement centered on the opening of the frontiers of developmental progression in the industry. The agreement is believed to tremendously accelerate growth and ensure the development in the sector. GIZ Donates Health Equipment and Materials to GIMPA Clinic The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has donated various health equipment and materials worth GH¢17,032.98 to the GIMPA Clinic. The items included a modern microscope, heavy duty weighing scales with height meter, sphygmomanometers and stethoscopes, a desktop computer, UPS anda printer. The rest are glucometers and glucose test strips, a public address system, assorted health information materials, and a 32 inch flat screen television. GIMPA Partners TEN Ghana for McDan Entrepreneurship Challenge 2018

The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has announced a partnership with entrepreneurship firm Today’s Entrepreneurs Network (TEN Ghana) to organizer the McDan Entrepreneurship Challenge (MEC) 2018. The competition which is funded by business mogul Daniel McKorley, known widely in the business circle as McDan, is providing a $100,000 support to young people. The competition will provide an opportunity for youth with business ideas to compete and win $25,000 to fund their businesses. GIMPA Law Wins Top Global Legal Award

GIMPA Law Wins Top Global Legal Award The GIMPA Law on Monday became the first African recipient of the top American Lawyer Global Legal Award. The award was given in recognition of its innovative legal ethics training program. The program was pioneered in 2015 in collaboration with the White & Case LLP of the United States and trains a number of Ghanaian law students and lawyers annually. The award was accordingly shared with them and the Fordham Law School.

Science and Technology Seminar Series For Females in First Cycle Institutions

Following an Alumni Activity Grant call by the Danida Fellowship Centre and Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in November 2017, a team of Alumni from the KNUST Chapter of DAN-G (DANIDA Alumni Network-Ghana) in partnership with the College of Science, KNUST submitted a proposal for grant support to initiate Science and Technology Seminar series for females in Junior High Schools. The proposal was among six (6) activities awarded the grant support in DFC affiliated networks in Danish partner/ priority countries. The pilot seminar is being organized for all teachers and female students in the Ayeduase R/C Junior High School and comes off on the 21st – 22nd June, 2018 at KNUST. It is envisaged that the Activity would among other things, Make Science and Technology “friendly” to a minimum of fifty (50) female Junior High students in Ayeduase and ultimately ignite their interest in scientific and developmental research as well as spur them on to higher heights in education and personal

What is Cholera?
